installing ati drivers radeon x800xl

Problem installing ATI Drivers for Radeon X800XL

During installation of display driver, the screen goes black and stays that way. Not sure if anyone else had this problem. I searched and couldn't find anyone with similar problem...
Anyone else have a similar problem, or better yet, workaround? I heard (read) someone had booted into safe mode and installed the drivers that way, but I haven't tried that yet. Oh yeah, I tried installing the drivers manually as well with the same result.
My setup...
Vista Beta 2 A8N-SLI Radeon X800XL Acer 1912 Monitor (1280x1024, 19")

I have exactly the same configuration (except monitor: Sony SDM-HX93), and I have successfully installed the latest version of ATI drivers for Vista: Driver Packaging Version 8.26-LH-RC0-060520a-033347E-ATI CATALYST® Control Center Version 2.0.2320.28349 Note: as I am running on the 64 bits version, I downloaded the ATI 64 bits version
This
driver was built for a previous beta version, not for the 5384.4 ... so it is not very stable... I have noticed that I need to disable the TV on 2nd display to get Aero working... otherwise it is not active.
If you have a secondary display activated, I recommand you to try to desactivate it before installing ATI drivers.

Jean-Marc

Just an update for anyone having similar problem to mine above. What I did to get the ATI drivers finally installed was just to do it through Safe Mode. The installation ran without a problem in safe mode.
Also, I'm working with 32bit drivers by the way.
Hope this saves other some grief...
